FINDING SOMEWHERE THAT STAYS WITH YOU
What I love about travelling is arriving somewhere new without really knowing what I'm going to find.
I usually find a base and head out from there. I often find somewhere to stay only a day or two before I arrive, usually through Airbnb.
Sometimes I'll ask a local where they like to go. Sometimes I'll look around Google Maps. And sometimes I'll simply arrive somewhere and start walking.
I'll wander, stop for a coffee and sit for a while, watching what is going on around me. I might notice a building, an old sign, an object, a shop window or something completely ordinary that makes me stop and look.
There doesn't always have to be a photograph. Sometimes it's enough just to find somewhere that feels interesting.
And every now and then, I find somewhere I know I'll want to see again.
Those places gradually become part of a list in my head — somewhere to return to years later, to see what has changed and what hasn't.
For me, that's the real pleasure of travelling: finding somewhere new, and then carrying a little bit of it with you.
