I LIKE OLD THINGS ON PAPER

I've always had a weakness for old magazines.

Not necessarily rare ones, or valuable ones. I'm more interested in the ones that make me stop — an unusual photograph, a beautiful typeface, an odd advertisement, a colour combination that somehow still works, or an image that looks as good now as it did when it was printed.

I can spend far too long looking through boxes of old magazines.

Sometimes I buy the whole magazine for one image.

That's really where Collected started.

I began taking the images I liked from these old publications and thinking about how they might look outside the magazine — not hidden between pages, but given a bit of space of their own.

Then came the frames.

I look for vintage frames that feel right with the image rather than buying something new and uniform. The frame is part of the piece; the scratches, worn edges and little imperfections are often what make it work.

The result is something somewhere between collecting and making — an old image, an old frame and a new reason to put them together.

And if someone else likes the combination as much as I do, I sell it.
